Singapore student completes English Channel swim

SINGAPORE student Thum Ping Tjin on Sunday became the first Singaporean to swim the English Channel, Channel NewsAsia reported.

Singapore student completes English Channel swim The report said that the 25-year-old student completed the swim in 12 hours and 24 minutes. The swim from Shakespeare Beach in Dover, England, to Cap Gris Nez near Calais, France, is about 33km long.


Mr Thum, also known as PJ, is a Rhodes Scholar studying at Oxford University.

He has represented Singapore in various swimming events, including at the 1996 Olympics.

The report says that he is in 'good health' after the feat, though he is 'very hungry'.
